A quick figure drawing that I was happy with from tonight's figure drawing session.
When my quick drawings shapes fit together well is when I become truly happy.

A drawing from Dr. Sketchy's. The gigantic black spot on her chest is a tattoo. I'm thinking of making this a painting.

Went to figure drawing again tonight for the first time in a really really long time (probably a year, shame on me.) I felt super slow and like I was drawing with mittens on or something as none of my lines were hitting where I wanted them to. I'm really excited to get to another session.

I just wanted to share some drawings from The Keyhole Sessions which I have been trying to attend fairly regularly. I really rather enjoy it as it is a little bit risque, a lotta bit sexy and I absolutely love it when two (or more) models interact. The interaction adds an entirely new dimension to your drawings and keep me from simply copying and forces me to figure out how to compose a drawing to tell the story of their interaction.

Oh. And I also drew baboons and orangutans at the zoo... a good while ago now.

I have really missed figure drawing. If I can I'll try to do it more during the summer, hopefully I'll be able to shake the rust off.

a 5 from Dr. Sketchy's that I spent some time cleaning up and coloring.

This is what's currently on the easel. It's a toughie because all I have for reference is what little I can remember.

Another 5 that I really enjoyed cleaning up. I think I might try to go to bed now.

I liked this drawing from Dr Sketchy's tonight. She was a fantastic model.
5 minute pose, but I spent a couple minutes finishing everything off.

So Joe Parks figure drawing class this past Tuesday was awesome. I was originally going to go back into these drawings and touch them up... But I have far too much other stuff on my plate to spend an hour reworking life drawings. I mean, I want my drawings to have more 'Finish' and finesse; but I have always kept my gesture drawings pretty much free from touch ups. I've made small changes from time to time, but rarely more than one or two lines.

But... We did a lot of "two-pose narrative storytelling". Which is a fancy way of saying that the model showed us where the two poses were going to be so that we could get them to interact, and change them if need be. And Joe at one point during the day said that we could be free to interpret the poses... and if anyone knows anything about how I draw gestures... I attempt to interpret and exaggerate the pose. And, man oh man. This was a brilliant exercise. I had so much fun; I was grinning ear to ear by the end.

Keep rockin, friends.

Are these the ones, Khaled?

Not the best stuff I've done, but I enjoyed drawing today.
I think I learned stuff. Maybe. And, I think, that sometimes that that is all that matters.

Yay! Life drawing marathons are fun!
There are a couple other okay ones, but this is by far my favorite.
Looking at this I can already see what I need to work on in order to improve, and that more or less gives me a direction to work in. And that feels good.

Now more than ever I want to learn how to oil paint; figurative work in particular.

Wanted to post a drawing before the day was through.... looks like I missed it by a few minutes. Nothing amazing. I was originally planning on coming home and drawing, but I got caught up making dinner... and then enjoying it. So just a drawing from the life drawing session I attended tonight. First time I spent more than 15 minutes figure drawing since.... December or so. I was definitely more than a little rusty, but I enjoyed myself and pushed myself to remember the tools to drawing rather than just mucking about drawing willy nilly.

I have a lot to work on.

I'll throw some life drawings at you. I like it when my shapes fit together well. When they don't I'll work for hours or days trying to get the ability to put lines where I want them to be. These are all drawings in that in between stage of things meshing and things not quite being in the right place.
